Thinking of the city of the future. That is the objective of the Smart future minds awards competition organised by the Smart automobile brand and open to Spanish design studios as well as theoreticians and professionals from other disciplines. Taking into account technological and environmental aspects, their proposals were charged with sketching a sustainable and eco-friendly future in which electrical mobility would play a relevant role. The Lightning device project by GilBartolomé ADW won first prize, with a purse of ten thousand euros. Second prize went to the Cementera de Santos de Maimona (Badajoz) proposal by CoLeCtIvO cOnCePtUaRtE, while third prize went to Patrizia di Monte and Ignacio Grávalos by Estonoesunsolar.
The competition forms part of the communication campaign connected with the launch of the Smart fortwo electric drive, the first series-produced electric car, and has already been staged in Berlin, Rome, Zurich and Paris. In each city, the competition featured five personalities who have chosen the ten best projects –Enrique Sarasola, Antonio Lafuente, Pier Luigi Cattermole, Santiago Cirugeda and Thomas Weber did this in Madrid—and presented them at the Smart urban stage exhibition. In addition, the acted as the judging panel in the selection of three winners. Brussels, Amsterdam and London are yet to choose their proposals that, together with the award-winning works in the rest of the cities, will then go on to a grand international finale.
