The Delirious City by Antonio Girbés.

ON325 - FEB/2012

With the title “Delirious City”, the Valencia photographer Antonio Girbés displayed in January in Madrid a new vision of the urban space from a plastic and geometric perspective. A timeless and dream-like reality that the artist creates through fragments of architecture in places as diverse as Paris, Moscow, Naples, New York, Shanghai, Barcelona or Vienna through thirteen large-format digital prints in which buildings and architectural elements are deformed and multiplied.

Although at first glance the works may be taken for collages, each image is developed from a single photograph shot analogically, then scanned and processed by the artist on Hahnemühle paper in a play of mirrors, repetitions and divisions. A reinterpretation of the urbanism and architecture of major names such as Lluís Doménech i Montaner, Antoni Gaudí, Jonann Fischer von Erlach, Norman Foster or Alexei Duskin that confers on spaces and buildings a very different function to that originally assigned to them, in an atmosphere of unreality and mystery.
