Tradition and technology at Heimtextil 2014

ON341 - MAR/2014

Heimtextil 2014 closed its doors on 11 January with a positive balance. A new edition of the International Frankfurt Fair for Home and Contract Textiles that has this year, once again, registered an important increase both in visitor numbers, almost 67,000 from 133 different countries, and in exhibitors, 2718 against 2616 last year.

Trends 2014/2015, one of the stand-out spaces of the fair, brought together multidisciplinary experts from the textiles and trends sector worldwide to present their predictions in regard to colours and textures for upcoming seasons through two opposing trends: collision of colours and innovation in materials through science and technology at ‘Progress!’ and crafts and the return to pure materials extracted from the earth and from nature in ‘Revive!’.

The growing interest in digital textile prints was one of the focus areas at a fair in which HP has presented the WallArt application to customise wallpaper in collaboration with the German architect and designer Markus Benesch, who has also displayed his Brickollection project at the fair, in which he uses wallpaper to decorate different surfaces and objects. The company Arte, jointly with the Le Corbusier Foundation, has presented a wallpaper collection based on Le Corbusier’s polychrome architecture; and Trevira CS announced the winners of the prizes through which the manufacturer recognises the best fabrics produced with its characteristic fire-resistant polyester yarn.

As a novelty for the 2015 edition, the fair will expand to accommodate a carpet section, thus increasing the sectors offered to visitors.
