The language of flavour: Spain pavilion at Expo Milano 2015

The Spain pavilion, designed by the b720 architecture practice headed by Fermín Vázquez, covers a total surface space of 3,300 m2 and is situated at the junction of the trade fair’s two principal avenues. The pavilion proposes to boost the image of tradition and innovation, which is architecturally achieved through the duality of two clear and forceful and apparently equal annexes but made from different supporting materials. The structure with repeated lintelled elements allows natural light to pass through it. The wood used for the structure represents tradition and the steel structure of the other volume represents innovation, materials and finishes that recall products such as wine, oil, cork or wood. The ensemble is completed with a characteristic cultural element from popular and traditional Spanish architecture, the courtyard. In this case, a courtyard planted with orange trees.

The pavilion’s themed contents promote the benefits of our diet and cuisine, inviting visitors to discover landscape experience and the food riches of the varied Spanish tourist destinations.
