Das Haus 2017

The New York product designer Todd Bracher is the guest of honour who has created the installation for the sixth edition of “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage” at the imm cologne trade fair.

Each year the promoters of this international furniture and decoration trade show choose a young and influential designer to present his or her vision of a present-day home set in a real house in an area of around 200m2 situated in Hall 2.2 of Villa Pure. A bridge between the dwelling cultures of America and Europe, “Das Haus” is a platform for undertaking experiments with the home, a comprehensive project that includes both architecture and interior decoration and product design.

Bracher's house consisted of two completely differentiated but overlapping blocks under a floating ceiling: a large space built from shelving walls and a semi-transparent roof, and a black cube above which hanged a luminous ball giving off moonlight.

With his proposal, Bracher re-approached the traditional three-bedroom plus kitchen, entrance hall and bathroom concept, confronting the traditional space layout concept with a vision of overlapping zones: one for cooking and eating, one for resting and one for personal hygiene; three differentiated yet fused zones, furnished according to today's requirements.

For Bracher, dismantling the elements of a home and joining them together again has been an opportunity to question the traditional notion of the contemporary way of life.
