The immovable traveller

With the 34 unpublished photographs—all of them single copies only—in the exhibition “The Immovable Traveller”, the photographer Chema Madoz (the winner of the National Photography Award in the year 2000) offered us his particular vision of Asturias.

Using iconic representation, and with the cunning irony that is inherent to his work, Madoz succeeded in connecting the observation of this small territory with his poetic representations, which go back and forth between pure abstraction and the concrete.

The exhibition was part of the “Visions of Asturias” initiative of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, the goal of which is to promote through patronage the creation of a collection of unseen works inspired in Asturias and its people through the intimate and personal vision of prestigious photographers, all of them winners of the National Photography Award.

On the occasion of this exhibition, the Foundation published a catalogue with texts by Borja Casani and Juan Bonilla which included the complete series of photographs as well as a notebook of drawings with some of the preliminary sketches made by Chema Madoz while preparing the project.

The show was on display at the Conde Duque Culture Centre until mid-April.
