Together Hostel, camping inside a hotel

JUL/17

This project considers indoor space as an area rather than a series of closed rooms, and tries to share the sunlight with as many corners as possible. To achieve it, walls were teared down and each kind of pipe system was regrouped for its functions like a cafe bar, a kitchen, a restroom, etc. The result is the Toghether Hostel, an “indoor camping space” on the second floor of a hotel in Beijing, ideal for young people.

A huge tent serves as the public space where people can have meals and beverage, read, chat, play and share activities. Smaller tents—the single and double bedrooms—are grouped in four or five units, forming a private set. Each set is equipped with sockets, extension cords and reading lights. The space left was used to build up step seats with storage room below to create a small theater. A project designed by the Chinese architect Cao Pu.
