Terras Gauda International Biennial Poster Design Awards 2017

The Oporto studio “United By” headed by Miguel Palmeiro has won first prize in the Terras Gauda - Francisco Mantecón International Biennial Poster Design Competition with a poster that will be the winery’s image for the next two years.

The runner-up was the Polish designer Monika Prus, and the second runner-up the prestigious Portuguese designer João Machado. Lastly, the special mention distinguished a poster by the Jerez designer Fernando Pinteño.

The four posters recognised in the contest form part of the 40 finalists selected by the jury, who hailed from Andorra, Poland, Italy, Germany, Israel, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Estonia, Slovakia, United States, Romania, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain. The graphic and typeface designer Pepe Gimeno was the jury’s benchmark professional, who remarked on the 1,568 originals from 62 countries entered in the Awards’ 13th edition.

Established as one of the three graphic design contests with the greatest prestige worldwide, and the one with the greatest relevance under private initiative, among the list of Francisco Mantecón prize winners we find graphic artists with prominent careers such as the Japanese Shima Takahiro, the Belgian Thomas Pion, the Berliner Sebastian Büsching, the New Yorker Taber Calderón, the Spaniard Cristina Vergara Echarri and the Pole Barbara Pilarska, among others.

Academic institutions such as the Bauhaus Weimar in Germany, Kunst Universität Linz in Austria and University of Arts London in the United Kingdom, as well as relevant contests such as the SBB BIENALE BRNO in the Czech Republic and the International Graphic Design Award in Taiwan, plus associations such as Artnagrada in Russia, the Colectivo Bicicleta in Colombia and the Centre de la Gravure et de l’Image Imprimée in Belgium have contributed to its repercussion on the five continents.
