James Dyson Award 2018

Until 20 July 2018

This prestigious international competition provides students and new graduates in engineering and design with the opportunity to enter their innovative inventions. The mission is a simple one: to design something that resolves a problem in an effective manner.

The winner will gain not only international recognition but also a cash purse of 33,500 euros to develop their idea (+ 5,500 euros for their university). In addition, each country’s national winners will receive a 2,200-euro prize.

The international winner at the James Dyson Award 2017 edition was the sKan, a low-cost device for the early detection of melanomas, designed to prevent a false diagnosis. The previous year the winner was the EcoHelmet, a folding cardboard helmet designed for shared bicycle systems. With technological advances and increased complexity of products, there is a trend towards using automatic learning, robotics and the fusion between software and hardware in participating inventions.

The James Dyson Award operates in 27 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE, United Kingdom and the USA.

Candidates can register by submitting an application via the internet on the contest’s website.

The deadline for registering is 20 July 2018.
