Chair: 500 Designs that Matter

Sinuous, zigzagging chairs in the shape of a ball, an egg or an ant, made from pleated paper, glass or hemp, luminous, gothic, antique… This detailed compilation of chairs encompasses from the earliest models to the most cutting-edge creations signed by internationally renowned designers such as Marcel Breuer, Lina Bo Bardi, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Hella Jongerius, Marc Newson, Gerrit Reitveld and Hans Wegner, among many others.

Each piece was chosen for its innovative design, its revolutionary materials, the technology used in its production or its unusual shape, colour or texture. The 500 designs have been arranged in a format of creative pairings to establish visual and conceptual comparisons and highlight unexpected similarities between objects sometimes produced in different centuries.

The presentation ends with a chronology, with extensive captions offering exhaustible and intelligible information on each chair and its designer, manufacturer and history.
