BBConstrumat 2019

14.05.19 - 17.05.19

Barcelona Building Construmat (BBConstrumat) is preparing a new edition based on innovation, knowledge and business development as the key elements for leading the transformation in construction.

The trade fair will feature an offering organised into four major areas: the “Future Arena” will present the industry’s most innovative and transforming projects; the “Industry Arena” will showcase the latest novelties on the market; the “Talks Arena” will gather together some prominent speakers to debate on the future of cities; and the “Meetings Arena” will be the zone allocated for networking and trade relations. Among the sessions in this last mentioned area—Meetings Arena—we highlight the “Interiors Lovers”: sessions: encounters between professionals from the interior design sector viewed from fields as close or as different as retail, contract, living space and working space; a way of understanding a place that poses a challenge for designers, who must come up with responses to a constantly mutating world.

The Josep Ferrando architecture practice, which enjoys recognised prestige in the field of pop-up installations and in the use of recyclable material, will be responsible for designing these themed spaces with a project based on the use of large white curtains and construction elements such as beams, which will be used as benches or help desks, in an example of pop-up architecture and circular economy. BBConstrumat thus follows the line initiated in the 2017 edition, which committed to presenting a pop-up architecture project to make the visitor experience more attractive. Ferrando’s proposal includes collaboration with the Construction Board of Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia, which will cede some of the large beams being used in the construction of Antoni Gaudí’s magnum opus, and the company Suprema, which will provide the translucent fabrics that will be used in this initiative as elements in the communal areas of BBConstrumat 2019. After the staging of the trade fair, the beams will be reused on the completion works of the Sagrada Familia, and the fabrics on other interior or exterior design projects, in an example of BBConstrumat’s commitment to the circular economy, something that will also be showcased during the staging of a fair that defines itself as a carbon-neutral, zero-waste event. With this in mind, and among other actions, it will donate surplus food to the NGO Nutrition without Borders.

As the lead-up to the staging of the trade fair, BBConstrumat has organised in 2018 a programme comprising three types of activities—BB Future, BB Talks and BB Meetings—in multiple formats (a forum, a congress, a prize, investor speed dating, panels of experts and a series of conferences) co-organised with the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture. This programme, called BB Series ’18, seeks to continue generating knowledge, incentivise innovation and drive business in the construction industry. The last activity will be BBMeetings, a forum for promoting business contacts between interior decorators and designers in the hotel field, which will take place in October in Madrid.

In addition, during the fair, prominent industry bodies and associations will organise free seminars, sessions and courses headed by some of the major organisations, institutions, benchmark blogs and businesses associated with the industry.
