Drawing Room 2019

Drawing room, the fair specialising in contemporary drawing, an indispensable event for lovers of art on paper looking for an alternative to other fairs in Madrid, staged its fourth edition in late February, coinciding with Arco Week.

Among the novelties at the past edition we highlight its move to the centrally located Palacio de Santa Bárbara, with a more reduced programme of galleries (around twenty galleries selected by a committee of experts) but a more specialised one; the staging of a programme for collectors, with an invitation extended to a series of collectors around whom a detailed programme was developed; and lastly the announcement that it is splitting into two events per year: February in Madrid and October in Lisbon.

The selection of artists remains one of the fair’s hallmarks. Drawing Room is a fair of galleries, but the quality of the artistic projects it presents is crucial for participating. Last edition in Madrid brought to light the dialogue between the new generations of artists, who have adopted drawing as their own medium, and the established masters, who have succeeded in giving it an indisputable autonomy and its own universal language.

The parallel Offsite programme presented the latest edition of “Papeleo, Cuadernos de Drawing Room” (Paperwork, Drawing Room Notebooks), the publication devoted to contemporary drawing published by the fair in its aim to operate as an observatory of the practice of drawing among today’s artists.
