Aldo Cibic – Aesthetics of Vitality

The Savona 18 Suites Hotel in Milan was the setting of a colourful exhibition during Fuorisalone 2019, with a selection of works by the Italian architect and designer Aldo Cibic, founding member of Memphis Group.

Images, forms, colours and functions spreaded accross the reception hall, the lobby, the Petit Café and the Garden 18 area of the hotel, which renovation project, carried out by Aldo Cibic in mid 2018, transformed an abandoned building into a design hotel.

The pieces of furniture and accessories plus various drawings, photographs and installations selected by the artist proposed a fluid story with a variety of references and dialogues between different eras (from the mid-1980s to the present day) and genres. The drawings illustrated the beginning of the process and the final results. Among the iconic furniture showcased there was the bench by Bisazza, Trio lamp, Lucky Eye mirror lamp, Otto dining table and Ellissima bookcase.

On one of the walls, a giant poster showed an image of the Piggy mouth-blown glass carafe, designed for Paola C. According to Aldo Cibic: "This is perhaps the object I love the most".
