Kengo Kuma and the furniture that blends into the surroundings

Until 18 August 2019

The architecture of Kengo Kuma is well-known throughout the world, but few people know that he also designs almost all of the furniture to accompany his works, in the same way that the greatest architects of the past did, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Alvar Aalto.

In each of his projects, he aims to cover the whole process in a comprehensive way, starting with the design of the building and interiors, and finishing with the furniture. A remarkable point of this furniture is how he reinterprets Japanese aesthetics, tools and traditional techniques in order to create contemporary furniture.

Over the last 10 years, Time & Style produced the furniture for Kuma most of important architectural projects. Now all the products designed by the Japanese architect and produced by the company starting from 2009 are displayed in the manufacturer's showroom in Amsterdam.
