Although the architecture of Kengo Kuma is well-known throughout the world, few people know that he also designs almost all of the furniture to accompany his works, in the same way that the greatest architects of the past did, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Le Corbusier,Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Alvar Aalto.
In each of his projects, Kuma aims to cover the whole process in a comprehensive way, starting with the design of the building and interiors, and finishing with the furniture. A remarkable point of this furniture is how the Japanese architect reinterprets Japanese traditional lifestyle, tools and techniques in order to create contemporary furniture.
Until 18 August, the Time & Style showroom in Amsterdam hosted an exhibition of all the products designed by the architect and produced by this furniture manufacturer starting from 2009. —
