Sant Boi de Llobregat Courthouse

BAAS. Jordi Badia

Description Technical file

A simple scheme of three bars separated by courtyards on a plinth is blurred when a uniform skin is applied, made from concrete slats that give the building an iridescent appearance, opaque from a foreshortened view and transparent from the inside. The vertical component of the slats presides over and arranges a newly built plaza. The building adapts through small gestures to the geometry of the streets that surround it, but in contrast presents a completely lineal north facade, justified by the rail tracks that run parallel to the street and clearly exposing its orientation to the plaza. When sunlight floods the courtyards, some of the slats in the north facade are illuminated from behind with a staged effect.
