Description Technical file

This exhibition space produces an innovative language by presenting a pictorial collection in such a way as to overcome the classical two-dimensional conception by introducing the third dimension in a vertical manner.
How to display an abstract pictorial period, in this case that of Lluís Trepat, a painter born in Tárrega (Lleida), adapting the ephemeral montage through a set of coordinates that can be connected with painting on a contemporary stage? Those are the initial premises that, in the manner of a functional programme, were set out by the authors of this exhibition that shows a selection of the abstract work of Lluís Trepat, a painter born in Tàrrega but who has lived for many years in Barcelona. The overview encompasses the years 1955 and 1961, when the artist took abstraction to Lleida.
Four rows of 4.5x4.5-centimetre Swedish pinewood slats every 40 centimetres and a height of 320 centimetres generate a vertical mesh, the base for the forty pictorial works on display. A black veil surrounds the space in such a way as to extract it from the place while the light to be controlled for each work. The prior viewing of the paintings on display, oils on canvas or on tablex, with signatures and various annotations on the back, generates the idea of understanding the picture as an artistic object, overcoming the classical conception of flatness and two-dimensionality. The work seeks to be displayed as something that must be visualised, surrounded and pampered.
The chronology and dimensions of the work generate syncopated rhythms and shapes, and create superposed visuals between the systematic repetition of vertical lines within the space. This is closely connected with the planned circulation model as well the shape of the space that contains the exhibition.
Evaluation of the jury
For its contribution to the pictorial exhibition language of a different way of understanding pictures, surpassing the classical conception of flatness and two-dimensionality.
