Description Technical file

This volume is pierced by a rift-patio through its central axis alongside a roof with aggressive geometry, and they establish its position of commitment to and dialogue with the neighbouring rural and agricultural
landscape.

The plot is located along the urban edge of the small town of Calamonte, on a small platform of land that visually dominates the surrounding agricultural fields.
The main conceptual and formal decisions that inspired the project begin with this location, which gives it special value in the city-field-landscape relationship. Also, the building’s presence from a distance (from the access roads, the A-66 motorway and Sevilla Road) makes it necessary for the building to offer a response. Therefore the roof emerged as the design’s foundational
element.
Seen from a distance, the roof completes the building’s compact presence, entering a dialogue with the hilly landscape surrounding the province. From up close it gives more height to the spaces requiring it, such as the entrance and the function room, bringing movement and a special character to the interior space. The building is deployed adapting to the longitudinal shape of the plot, which is rectangular and has a north-south orientation. The generator concept for the ground floor was the opening of a rift-patio along the central axis, piercing it along its full length and becoming the project’s primary space. On the northern façade this rift configures the public entrance between the volumes, and past the lobby it continues as a more introspective space. The required programme, administrative support for entrepreneurs, is organised with great programmatic rationality and economy of circulatory spaces, ensuring the flexibility required. The uses are grouped into three distinct units: the business incubator,
the support offices and the conference halls, arranged around the central lobby, the building’s centre of gravity that ensures visitors get oriented quickly.
The restrained choice of materials aims to reinforce the volume’s geometric potential: besides the enveloping white exterior, finished with a liquid polyurethane membrane, there is just exposed concrete on ceilings and floors and various transparent elements ranging from glass to one- or two-layer cellular
polycarbonate, tinging the light and controlling direct solar radiation.
