Wellness 02 Centre sports complex. Parc del Migdia

Alonso-Balaguer y Arquitectos Asociados

Description

This sports complex is part of the urban remodelling works carried out on the lands previously occupied by the old barracks of the Civil Guard. They have been replaced by a new block of leisure and culture facilities in the form of a sports complex with outdoor pitches and a library, both built by Alonso-Balaguer y Arquitectos Asociados). The construction took place in an area known as Pla de Palau, calle Miigdia in the Casernes Sector, part of an urban development plan drawn up by Girona City Council and executed after a public competition. The construction, management and running of this centre is part of an administrative concession between the city council and a private company that acts as the developer of the building. A formula that makes it possible to obtain a high level of facilities for the citizens without public disbursement, with the property reverting to the council after a certain number of years. In this way the public administration encourages individual physical activities by giving them a social dimension and transforming these centres into a central meeting point that gives life to a district, to a city.
