Restoration of the palace of Jabalquinto

BN Asociados. Ramón Valls y Silvia Babsky, y Arturo Vargas-Machuca, arquitectos

The palace of Jabalquinto, situated in the Jaen town of Baeza, conserves three architectural elements of notable interest. The first is the façade, a notable expression of the Spanish Elizabethan style, one of the few components of the palace to conserve its original layout; the second one is the courtyard, which conserves notable renaissance elements though some of the details reveal a few baroque hints, and the staircase, with its splendid monumental character, is typically baroque. The intervention seeks two basic ends: the first is to correct the damage affecting numerous constructional elements in the building and the second is to adapt it to the university uses that are already in place in the adjacent building of the convent of San Felipe Neri.
