Archive and Regional Library of the Community of Madrid

Mansilla + Tuñon arquitectos. Luis M. Mansilla y Emilio Tuñón

The archive depot and the regional library shape an integrated centre specialising in the treatment of documentation, whose basic purposes are the conservation, custody and diffusion of the documentary historic heritage to ensure its conservation and availability of the documentation in the hands of the Administration, in order to guarantee the transparency of the administrative processes and the defence of the citizens. The new complex occupies part of the refurbished buildings of the old El Águila brewery, whose architectural treatment proposes a notable dialectic between its architectures made of exposed brick fabric, with a considerable level of formal development, and the smoother, flatter architectures of the newly built part.
